Abaxar connector setup

Connect TikTok

TikTok powers the TikTok paid-media views and the shared ads reporting surfaces. The setup is a read-only Marketing API app: you register it, TikTok reviews it, and then you authorize your advertiser account from inside Abaxar; the app secret is used once for the exchange and never stored.

TikTok reviews new Marketing API apps, and approval typically takes several days. Create and submit the app first, so the wait runs in the background while you connect everything else.

Find your advertiser ID first

TikTok’s Create App form asks for your advertiser account ID inside the app description, before any API access exists, so it can’t be looked up through the API. It has to be read off Ads Manager.

  1. Open TikTok Ads Manager.
  2. Open the account menu at the top right: the advertiser ID is the long number under the account name. It is also in the address bar as the aadvid= value.
  3. Copy it exactly: plain digits, typically 19 of them, no spaces or formatting.

Create the app

TikTok’s review team wants the App description to say four things: the business, the permissions and scenario, the authorisation scope, and the advertiser account. The field is capped at 500 characters, and the template below fits with room for a real brand and account name. Copy it, paste it into the form, and replace the three bracketed values. Don’t expand it.

App description field, 500-character limit. Replace the three bracketed values.

Company: [Brand], an ecommerce business. Scenario: read-only TikTok Ads reporting in our internal analytics dashboard, a self-hosted tool we run on our own machine. Permissions: read-only campaign, ad group, ad and reporting data for the authorised advertiser. Authorisation scope: our own company advertiser account only; no campaign creation or editing, no third-party clients. Advertiser account: [Account name] / [Advertiser ID]

  1. Open the TikTok Business API portal and click Create App.
  2. Name it after your brand, for example Example Store Reporting, so you recognise it later.
  3. Paste the description template and fill in the three bracketed values.
  4. For Advertiser redirect URL, use a public page your business controls, like yourstore.com/pages/tiktok-api. Never a password-protected dashboard, a placeholder, or a URL you don’t own; your public homepage is fine if you can’t make a dedicated page.

Select the permissions

Keep the request aligned with what the app description promises: read-only. Under Scope of permission select:

  • Reporting
  • Ads Management → Campaign → Read Campaigns
  • Ads Management → Ad Group → Read Ad Groups
  • Ads Management → Ad → Read Ads
  • The smallest read/account-info permission under Ad Account Management. This one is required, not optional: Abaxar’s Verify button and the currency lookup on every sync both need it, and a token minted without it fails Verify with a 40001 scope error.
  • Optional, for thumbnails and video previews in the creative tab: Creative Management → Read Image Library and Read Video Library. Everything else about creatives works without them.
  • Never select the Create and Update write scopes; the description says read-only, and mismatches are what reviews bounce on.
  1. Click Submit. A review or pending-verification status is expected; wait for approval before the next section.

Authorize in Abaxar (once the app is approved)

  1. In Abaxar, open Settings → Connectors and find the TikTok card.
  2. Enter your advertiser id in TIKTOK_ADVERTISER_ID and save it first; the authorization checks the new token against it.
  3. Under Authorize TikTok, enter your App ID and the redirect URI registered on the app, then click Begin authorization.
  4. Open the link it produces and consent on TikTok for the advertiser you report on. TikTok sends you to your redirect URL with a one-time code in the address bar.
  5. Copy that full redirected URL, paste it back into the card together with your App secret, and click Complete connection. The exchange runs locally; only the minted access token is stored, never the secret or the code.
  6. Click Verify, then choose the backfill window and click Run backfill.

If something looks wrong

  • Verify answers with a 40001 "lacks the required scope" error: the Ad Account Management read permission was missed. Edit the app’s scopes, resubmit, and re-authorize; scopes are baked into the token at mint, so the existing token can’t gain it.
  • The advertiser id was copied with spaces or formatting: TikTok wants the plain digits exactly as Ads Manager shows them.
  • You consented on the wrong advertiser: re-run the authorization and pick the account the id points at.
  • Adding the optional creative scopes later means re-running the authorization for a fresh token; previews then fill in on the next sync.
